Prior to entering seminary, I spent about eight months as a youth pastor at a First Evangelical Free Church in Boone, Iowa. Since many of my readers did not know me at that point in my life, I thought I would give you a little idea of the kind of youth pastor I was. This video pretty much sums it up, wouldn't you agree Kelli B.?

oh my gosh, that is hilarious.
where on earth does one find such goodies anyway?
But you know, other than offending Kelli's mother because you made high school Kelli pay up on a $10 bet ....well, other than THAT, you were a pretty good youth leader yes? I mean, the bet was meant to EDUCATE, right?
I mean, who can't recite all the presidents of the United States?? duh!? and those darn kids shouldn't be makin' bets they can't win anyway, even if they WERE high on KFC at the time. And well, never mind that you South Dakota mission trip adult LEADERS entertained yourselves on your reconnaissance trip singing at the top of your lungs "we're not gonna take it -- NO!" And forget about the time that you were going a bit too fast when you drove over the railroad tracks with that donated trailer that was to be used to take up to the reservation, and well -- it never made the trip, right? It probably still sits out back of the EFree Church in Boone -- hopefully by this time, the weeds have hidden it from sight of the church fathers. And then there's the time you drove one of your new friends from the youth group into the snowy ditch on the way to Des Moines, but then she was out of high school by that time, so it was ok. And THAT'S only the goods your MOTHER has on you. Probably the tip of the iceberg. But you all turned out ok..... doesn't it say somewhere in Proverbs "all's well that ends well?"
with love, A Proud Mom
OH MAN OH MAN!
I love these memories. Jackson, this MUST be your mom commenting - who else knows about that 10 dollar bet??? hahaha! Oh that was really, really funny. I still have that note in my photo album next to the photo of my [shall we say ruined] tank top. probably the single best funny memory of that trip! :)
That video definately sums up your youth pastor days with great amounts of humor! Oh those were the days. We are forever molded, those who were under your leadership.
This is funny, just last night my sister Linds and I were reminiscing about our days of youth and how the year you and Bruce were our leaders/the year you led yourself were so memorable. After listing endless noteable memories (including the Holy Ghost song/dance, Bring it On, singing Freedom! outside of the church vans, the fat cat and pool games and t-peeing, and when you and Richard got behind the Westchester girls while they were doing their lip-sync song on the stage at Rosebud and you were holding your ears in pain and anguish while the entire crowd laughed and the poor girls thought the crowd loved them until you were spotted...did I tell you I went to school at UNI with three of the original four?) we decided that our days with you two could only be summed up in saying that it is like living life on a never-ending show of "Who's Line is it Anyway?" Absolutely hilarious.
And my mom has not forgotten that 10 dollar bet. ;)
**as a side note, we also have a LOT of great memories on the more serious side. you really were a great y.p. in our eyes!
thanks for a trip down memory lane!
