Irenaen Wisdom II

"It is better and more profitable that we should be uneducated and know little but draw near to the love of God, than that we should think ourselves deeply learned and experienced and so blaspheme against the Lord. That is why Paul proclaimed, 'Gnosis puffs up, but love builds up.'"

-St. Irenaeus of Lyons

Excellent quote. You know how I love a good quote from one of the saints. Thanks for always sharing them...

Great to hear the wisdom of Irenaeus on your blog. Somehow quotations like this are even heavier when they come from incredible thinkers like Irenaeus. Thanks for pointing us to the essence of our faith--love.

I miss you man. It's not easy to get in touch, but know that I love from Knoxville and look forward to hearing about your world soon.

Ah, didn't you two dance together at my wedding and make my little niece Hannah cry?

Jack- so good to hear from you. You know, I may never have told you this, but you are the one who first turned me on to Irenaeus what with our conversations around Farrow's infamous book (another COS reader ought to know something of that book). Now here I am devoting my life to him. Thanks man. :)

Let's talk soon.

I heard Farrow fled to Rome in light of the Anglican chrisis. I was actually jealous of those who got to read him in KCW (that must make me a nerd). Keep up the fathers qoutes! Stay warm in Wisconsin, Jackson.

YES MATT! I hear you! I guess we were just not smart/cool to be a part of the elite "Farrow Group of Nerds" Now I admit that there is something a bit suspect about our hidden desire to be a part of a group that is required to read MORE for a class right? I guess that makes us about as nerdy as my sweet husband :)

Geesh! Who knew the Farrow book was such a point of contention? This is probably as much discussion as that book has gotten since the original discussion in KCW.

Well its about time we name the elephant in the room, even if it is six years later.
